  • Radioteleskop Effelsberg

    With a diameter of 100 m, the Effelsberg radio telescope is one of the largest fully mobile radio telescopes on earth. Since its commissioning in 1972, continuous work has been done to improve its technology, so that today it is still considered one of the world's most modern telescopes. That is why it attracts many visitors from home and abroad. In a pavilion directly in sight of the telescope, lectures are regularly held for visitors.

  • Freilichtmuseum Kommern

    The LVR open-air museum in Kommern shows how people lived and worked in the countryside more than 100 years ago. Historic breeds of domestic animals are still bred there today, old crops are cultivated and fields are tilled with ploughs and harrows. The open-air museum is one of the largest in Europe. Take some time to look at the historic houses and exhibitions on the 100-hectare site. You will need at least two hours to stroll through the museum and look at something here and there, and another hour for the WirRheinländer exhibition. Most visitors come at the weekends in summer, so there is a lot going on. Mondays and Fridays are particularly suitable for a quieter and more in-depth engagement with the museum.

  • Eifelsteig

    The Eifelsteig hiking trail is 313 km long and, under the motto "Where rock and water accompany you", leads into the largest intact high moorland in Europe. The High Fens, through North Rhine-Westphalia's only national park, past the witnesses of the Eifel's volcanic past to the striking red sandstone cliffs of Trier. The perfect starting point for this stage is Steinfeld, 20 km away (stage 06).

    The small town of Bad Münstereifel is nestled in deciduous and coniferous forests - a hiker's paradise right outside the town walls. More than 200 kilometres of well-marked hiking trails lead you through the "Münstereifel Forest" recreation area, over gently rising heights, past crystal-clear streams and lush meadows. 47 huts are available for a restful break, offering shelter and protection against moody weather. Children are thrilled by the great forest playgrounds. And if you want to barbecue with friends and family, you can rent a barbecue hut from the spa administration. Explore the Münstereifel forest on your own or let yourself be guided by experts, e.g. along the forestry trail, the natural history trail or to the numerous Roman sites. Two walks in the surrounding area are organised weekly, plus full-day walks in winter, spring and autumn. Münstereifel specialities are the botanical hikes to discover wild herbs and wild vegetables and the monthly night hikes with the hiking guide of the Eifelverein.

    The densely wooded and hilly low mountain range landscape around BME has developed into an ideal mountain biking area for years. Idyllic stream valleys, steep climbs over limestone peaks and volcanic cones, lush descents through the dark green deciduous forest hell invite you to pure enjoyment of nature and riding fun. Supported by the state of North Rhine-Westphalia as part of the project "Bicycle-friendly district of Euskirchen", the town of Bad Münstereifel established a signposted network of trails with a total length of about 300 km especially for mountain bikers in 2002.
